GADFLY'S COMMENT CAUSES FEMALE TOWN HALL UMBRAGE

With the candidacy of Tom Carl for the Mullica School Board, GadFly had attempted to address an ugly rumor that had circulated for several years ... apparently, unknown to the Carl family ... regarding domestic abuse. The rumor ... repeated and heard over and over again ... and when questioned, often it was stated that the person did not even know who the Carl's were. This seemed deeply troubling and unfair.

In a conversation with Mr. Carl about the rumor...he assumed it came from one of his School Board opponents, Ms. Hunt. It had NOT ... ever been uttered by Ms. Hunt. In attempting to analyse where the ugly rumor had originated, GadFly wrote; 'The ugly rumor that Town Hall women have circulated about him (Carl) is unfounded.' This posting provoked a sense of outrage from many of the women who work at Town Hall.

Interestingly, it was revealed that the ugly rumor was first spoken in Town Hall from a man...not a woman. While the purveyor of this ugly rumor was only identified as a 'Republican man who I will not name'...it seemed clear that this rumor needed to be killed as it simply had no credibility or evidence. In cases of domestic violence there are often bruises or other physical signs...none exist in this case...and to attempt to justify in some way the continued circulation of this ugly rumor with the fact that often women do not report abuse for years...is despicable.
