Subject: Re: GADFLY HEADED TO COURT – AGAIN: Larry, I can see your license plate clearly. I can also see the skulls of your past lovers in your rear window. O'Hara would of had more grounds to write you an "Obstruction of View" ticket instead.
RESPONSE: Thanks for planting ideas in the not too bright heads of Mullica's Gestapo.
Subject: Officer Ohara: I think I know who officer ohara is? Isn't he that little fella with the big chip on his shoulder who suffers from a severe lack of personality? Can you provide more details about this ticket Lar? Like, where did you get it - while parked in the town lot or while driving home from the town meeting? What time was it that you got the ticket? How did your court hearing go? What was the outcome? I think its amazing that while overtime costs for cops soar, they are enforcing dirty license plates on the citizens of this town. Unbelievable! Is this what our tax dollars are going towards?? Do we as taxpayers who support the Police Department really need this type of selective enforcement which amounts to nothing more than abuse of power and harassment? I think town council should be pressured by the citizens of this town to look into doing away with our overworked, under appreciated police force. This way, Oh ara can have more time to take interpersonal training classes and the porn loving, mechanical deer shooting Sgt can find the time to get a new prescription for contacts while attending his 12 step program to beat his porn addiction. The Chief probably doesn't care, he has his real estate empire to fall back on.......by the way, how does someone on a police officers salary acquire 21 or so properties??? Did the Chief hit the lottery? Inheritance? I am sure it was just savvy investing on his part coupled with a cost savings of not having to pay for CO's, putting the renters of Mullica at peril while enriching himself.............very Christian-like indeed....a sad, sad state of affairs..............
A DECISION ON GADFLY'S RECENT ENCOUTER WITH THE JUSTICE SYSTEM
Despite the well intentioned advise of acquaintances to just pay the $54 fine and avoid Court costs and the frustration of again appearing in Buena Boro before Judge Carl Cavagnaro...I had come to peace with paying the extra money, $87 instead of $54, just to have my say. After all this was the same Court that had found me guilty of-- having no number on my mail box and the Prosecutor had sought the maximum fine of $1,500 as it didn't seem to matter to him or the Court that the Mayor of Mullica who lives four doors down also had no number on her mail box...but of course, she was a fellow Republican. The allegations involving the Forman/St Amour guided truck toward the head of St Amour had also been heard in Buena Boro before Cavagnaro as well as the Complaint of selective enforcement regarding the alleged illegal political sign in the tree on my property during the last election. In all/some of those cases the decision seemed questionable to many lay people…but life is not fair … and often JUSTICE is not blind…she peaks to see how thick your wallet is, the color of your skin, or who has POWER.
In that context, my expectations were that I would ramble my defense of selective enforcement, yet again, and allege the latest example was a result of exposing the Mullica Police porno scandal, the Chief of Police, joe THE LANDLORD barbera's rental for decades of homes in Mullica without COs, the exposure on a monthly basis of traffic ticket numbers that showed some Mullica Police Officers to be lazy...and the fact that the night before the ticket was issued a Budget Work shop had decided NOT to hire an additional cop ... and that the following morning after the ticket had been issued by O'Hara … the Mayor, bill THE INVERTABRATE TOADY kennedy was boasting that I had been ticketed by his police department...and at the end I would be quickly found guilty.
O'Hara testified that I had been 'confrontational' and 'dismissive' HUH? ME? I testified that it had snowed that night and I had gone to the Town Meeting and had to remove snow and ice from my windshield and on the trip home had spotted the cop car behind me on Elwood Road...just past the Moss Mill traffic light... I came to full stop at the red light...proceeding through on green, the cop car turned on its red lights and I proceeded a bit to find a place where there was little water to pull over as it was now drizzling. I testified that the cop after getting my ID ...seemed to keep me waiting for a long time until back up arrived...and then came back to my car and told me he had stopped me because my 'license plate was dirty.' I told the Court that I was incredulous and exited my car walking back with the officer to the rear of the car and declared that I could clearly read the letters on the plate despite some dirt on the plate. O'Hara told me to get back in my car...and we waited some more and then he came and gave me a ticket...I exited the car and clearly expressed my anger to this kid...telling him I would see him in Court.
On the stand O'Hara now testified that the lament on the plate had begun to peal off and it was a reflective lamenate and the pealing resulted… when his head lights were cast directly into the plate...the plate to not be readable. Actually, this was an accurate statement of the reality. I testified that I had bought the car new in 1996 and it had around 180,000 miles on it...and had never been washed and had the original State license plate issued by the DMV... that was put on it at the time of purchase. The Judge in his findings indicated that it was his belief that the ticket would not have been written if I had not been so belligerent and that the cop was justified in writing the ticket because the verbiage of the Law was that the license plate had to be kept clean of dirt and be visible. The Judge indicated that he felt that I was paranoid and probably believed that the cop was waiting for me as I left the meeting and intending to ticket me.
However, the Judge indicated he had trouble finding me guilty when the plate had been issued by the State and had not been altered by me and had become defective. He Ordered that I get a new plate and found me not guilty. He again castigated me for my failure to meet and discuss the matter with the prosecutor and my general anger at the world. HUH? ME? I was frankly, surprised at the outcome...and look forward to becoming in my old age a curmudgeon…and visiting the Court many, many more times.
