Subject: Egg Harbor Cit Train Station Incident: For sometime I have enjoyed the postings of this blog. I feel that many issues that are discussed show the "Pulse of the Community/Country" or lack of a "Pulse" (private humor). Many of the rants and a lot of the ravings are entertaining. Some show great intellect and others lack of civilized behavior. I love to read the endless banter that goes back and forth between certain "bloggers". But, that is why this blog is a HIT. We can agree to disagree and still keep our opinions regardless of each other. My post today is on the incident that happened at the Egg Harbor City Train Station where a woman was attacked. This woman did indeed pass away, but, no where does it indicate that she died from her injuries. In fact she was released from the hospital and died at home. The case is still under investigation so the exact cause of her death has not been released. This in no way undermines the fact that she was indeed assaulted and hurt. Let this family who lost someone they loved have some space and privacy. The juveniles were arrested immediately and the case was turned over to the Atlantic County Prosecutors Office. The ACPO, are pursuing the investigation and the criminal charges will be handled by them. I am always insulted (since I do live in EHC), why people think that we are the only local community with "problems". They are everywhere and every family gets one................... If you think for one minute that people are not assaulted at the Mall, at the Casino, getting out of there cars, often in their workplace leaving, in their own backyards and in their own homes, you are wrong. Do the malls notify the public when someone gets robbed of their purse? Do the Casinos post every incident? Do banks tell you when the person using the ATM was robbed? The answer is "Watch your back". Lock your house doors, your car doors, your garage doors, take valuables out of your vehicles, don't wave around lots of cash. (My father always said a locked door only keeps your friends out). Pay close attention to your surroundings and the people around you, in other words, USE SOME COMMON SENSE. Stop ranting and raving and blaming our Police Chief & Mayor for this. All questions should be directed to the Atlantic County Prosecutors Office, which is in charge of the investigation and information. Shame on you SL for thinking that you have the "right to know the entire story" because you use the train and might be in danger. I hate to be the one to break it to you, but, the last time I saw Mayor Joe Kuehner he did not carry a badge or a gun. Signed a EHC resident who believes that there are 3 sides to every story. JG

RESPONSE: Respectfully, I think perhaps the point is that ... too often, those in charge prefer to hide from the public things that the public has a right to know. They don't have a right to know the names of the minors ... but the notion that because the private sector at times chooses to hide a crime because it is bad for business does not justify nor give cover to the reality that all too often the police and elected offica DUMB act against the public interest they have sworn to serve… by hiding various criminal acts that occur on their watch. Indeed, the world is a dangerous place ... but hiding the fact of a brutal assault at a public train station only seems to make it more so.
