CORRECTION ON JACKSON RD POSTING

GadFly has learned that there have been at least two interactions with Mullica's Road Supervisor, Pete Bernado and Atlantic City Electric regarding the issue of trees overhanging Jackson Road and creating the potential of a dangerous situation. The position of the Electric Company apparently is that they will maintain a clear tree overhang regarding the small area of Jackson Road down which their lines are strung. The thick cable strung along the rest of Jackson Road carries phone lines and not electric lines and the phone company is non-responsive regarding clearing the tree line pictured in the photo posted on GadFly.

At some point both for the phone company and the low number of residents (3) on Jackson Road the question becomes one of weighing the costs versus the benefits. We seem to be having more mild winters of late and when one lives in the north east, coping with slippery roads is just part of life. To spend $20,000 of scarce tax dollars to cut back trees as many residents are facing harder times as a result of the Republican Bush recession on the horizon...just seems foolish. The argument that life is difficult and government should address every inconvenience is one fools make over and over again as in 'if it saves one life' kind of rhetoric. The reality is that the cost benefit ratio is something that is weighted all the time...if we hire ten more cops it may save one life in the next 50 years. That does not seem to make any sense...drive slow on snow or ice covered streets and there should be a yearly attempt to turn this road over to the County as there was in the past. Too often, Mullica offica DUMB just accept the first 'No'.
