Subject: The Spin of the Sinners: Larry the level of deception knows no bounds with this Whit House. Right wing talking heads say past presidents have done the same thing with federal prosecutors, but hey don’t mention that these were President Bush’s own appointees, and that it is very rare indeed for a sitting president to fire his own selections, especially in the middle of his second term. Once appointed, these prosecutors should be lawyers representing the American people, not the Republican or Democratic Party. This administration quite obviously sees it differently. If Alberto Gonzales had know about the reason for the firings, he should resign or be fired. If he didn’t know what was happening in his own department, he should resign or be fired. Chuck

RESPONSE: You highlight the key point here; Republican defenders of anything this President does note that under Clinton, Attorney General Janet Reno fired all Federal prosecutors...they of course, fail to note that at the beginning of the Presidency of Ronald Reagan this is what he too did. Bush’s reputation of appointing political hacks like Brownie at FEMA and Rumsfeld and incompetent Generals and we could just go on and on ... who stayed on because they were willing to toe the Party line over their oaths of office is well established and when they don’t they are pushed out...think the head of the Joint Chiefs of the Military who said we needed several hundred thousand more troops to control Iraq after the quick military victory, or Secretary of State Powell and again we could just go on and on here...so perhaps we should not be surprised by the firing of ethical Republican Federal prosecutors who took their oath to uphold the laws of the land seriously rather than as so many Bush folks seem to believe that elected office affords one the right by fiat to ignore the laws and the checks and balances as the ‘decider’ does. What has America become under this kind of abuse of power by Bush Republicans? Where is the embarrassment of people who once were proud members of the GOP?
