MULLICA’S MAYOR POMPOUSLY CLAIMS VICTORY ON DUMP

Incredulously, Mullica’s Mayor cathy THE BAG LADY chasey who had shown by her refusal to allow any kind of signage on Town property, or at her home opposing the County Republican plan to ship all of Atlantic City casino garbage out of State using their campaign contributor steve THE SCOFFLAW waszen’s proposed rail garbage transfer station in Mullica...She puffed herself up at the Mullica March 27 town meeting to personally take credit for herself and almost every other Republican out there for the demise of a Machiavellian Republican plot to bring a garbage rail transfer station to the old Perona Bros. Junk Yard site in Mullica proposed by Magic Disposal and Southern Rail.

THE BAG LADY chasey claimed that a deal had been reached with THE SCOFFLAW waszen that involved an easement between the property and the rail line that would keep a rail hook up from the property from occurring. GadFly has learned the quid pro quo for THE SCOFFLAW waszen in agreeing to grant the easement is apparently some kind of financial reduction on the amount of the fine the Mullica Court had been enforcing ($184,000 plus now, over $100,000 in late payments). What other aspects the negotiations leading up to this settlement contain remain unclear at this time, but THE BAG LADY chasey indicated that at the next Town meeting more detailed information would be forthcoming. The Mullica Court has scheduled a Hearing on bringing this matter formally to conclusion for April 17th.

Contextually, the Mullica proposed garbage rail station has been dead for a long time. The move by Governor Cody to pull the pending approval by New Jersey Transit of a rail loading site for the property combined with the Federal Court decision indicating that South Jersey Rail would have to apply through the Pinelands Commission and meet its criteria for approval of a rail transfer station in The Pinelands effectively killed the project. The facts on the ground further underscore this with both THE SCOFFLAW waszen and SJR (the rail line) moving their efforts outside the Pinelands to Pleasantville for a rail transfer station.

Concerns regarding what has been given to THE SCOFFLAW waszen in return for this unnecessary easement and in reality seem to be more a quid pro quo for campaign contributions to County Republican politicians will become more clear next month. When questioned at the Town meeting as to what THE SCOFFLAW waszen planned now for the property, THE BAG LADY chasey was evasive. The County will be issuing a press release on the deal that should give a more detailed picture of the agreement soon.
