Subject: Schiavo: If you are following the Schiavo case you clearly have to be suspicious of her husband. When she first arrived at the hopital years ago she had a broken bone in her neck area . A lack of oxygen didnt do that. Now there are nurses coming foward with some new accusations. Then theres the fact that she does not have a living will , just her husbands word that she would want to die. I belive in the right to die I myself have a living will which keeps me off any life support, but starving someone to death , even though it is life support in a sense, doesnt seem right .This whole thing is very sad. God bless her, and if and when she dies she surely will get her wings.

RESPONSE: Just a couple of points that I agree with here; yes, “This whole thing is very sad,” and I too believe in the right to die and the idea of “starving someone to death, even though it is life support in a sense, doesn’t seem right” to me either. But your observations about the husband seem unfair. Put yourself in his shoes...you wouldn’t have sued the doctors? In the beginning he helped her diligently with therapy, but how long do you put your life on hold when the doctors say there is no hope?

As Woody Allen wryly said: IF THERE IS A GOD, HE IS A TERRIBLE UNDERACHIEVER. Her parents come across as religious nuts, sort of like those Jehovah Witnesses who so believe in their faith and in their Taliban like god that they will ignore medical science and let their children die. The other day the Catholic clergy were beating up on the husband because he had abandoned his marriage vows. This from the same hypocritical church that for years has sold marriage annulments to the wealthy...for money and not for relibious doctrine or science.

And then we have the crack pot Pope telling everyone that suffering is a good thing....god’s will...all those innocents lost in the tsunami, or killed, orphaned, raped, tortured throughout history...a good thing...god’s will? But, if you just endure your suffering and being robbed and exploited by rich Republicans and suffer in silence, you will find heaven in the end and for eternity. Sounds like a marvelous con, being marketed to the masses so the working masses don’t seek fairness and justice here on earth. As Napoleon wisely observed: RELIGION IS WHAT KEEPS THE POOR FROM MURDERING THE RICH.

This is from the doctors and scientists on her condition: “The vegetative state is a clinical condition of complete unawareness of the self and the environment, accompanied by sleep-wake cycles with either complete or partial preservation of hypothalamic and brain-stem autonomic functions. Patients in a vegetative state are usually not immobile. They may move the trunk or limbs in meaningless ways. They may occasionally smile, and a few may even shed tears; some utter grunts or, on rare occasions, moan or scream.”

The catholic parents want to believe that these are signs that she in other than in a hopeless situation. Republican politicians are more than happy (while cutting Medicaid -- and that’s whose paying the bill that they want to cut drastically -- the funding for this program so their wealthy supporters can have their tax cuts) to exploit this tragedy. Yes, it is sad, but it is being manipulated as a part of the Republi CON and that is heartless despicable. If there was a caring god, the BASTARD BUSH $$$$$ BOYS, and DeLay and the others using this tragedy to divide America, would be struck down dead!
