Subject : RE: Impact fees for Mullica Recreation: Dear Larry, I wouldn’t be in such a rush to willy-nilly hand over to the local recreation association all the new money that the township might garner from a substantial increase in the usage fee on new homes. After all, this association is already receiving township money, some which is being used to help pay the debt for the construction of all the playing fields that they use and pays for much of their ongoing maintenance, for example. The MTRA only serves a minority of the total number of youths in the township; as their ages increase, the percentage decreases. Many more of our youths are not into sports or drop out and, other than school-sponsored clubs and scouts, there’s nothing socially for them here. We should consider building a township-owned community center with a portion of the extra money so that all residents could have the opportunity to benefit from it, which would be a more equitable way of using township money, a place for local teens to meet and hold dances and where adult residents could hold meetings, have clubs and play indoor sports and games, for instance. Such a gathering place would also help to create community spirit, which Mullica is currently lacking for the most part. It wouldn’t seem right using all this “new-found” money for only a relative, favored few. What about the rest of us? Signed, Mullica Resident
