Subject: Bitter Harvest: Larry, the lament about President Bush’s policies by many Republicans is the height of irony since it was the conservative Christian vote that reelected him. Such criticism, however, is deserved and inevitable. As a Catholic, I was able to separate my religious beliefs from matters of state, but many Christians, not all, voted on matters of morality such as gay marriage and abortion. Well, now gays will have little chance to marry, but we must all suffer the consequences of Bush’s flawed domestic agenda and a disastrous war. For those Republicans go back and read Bush’s political platform, it was all there in black and white. Anthony

RESPONSE: The destruction of Social Security, the massive fiscal irresponsibility, the shredding of our environment with dirtier water and air as long time pollution regulations are rescinded and the drilling in the Arctic Refuge, the hidden dead and maimed bodies from public view, as a cost of a misbegotten war, the failure to fund education and health care for our children and seniors; all destroyed in the name of keeping gays from marrying? Somehow that seems a bad tradeoff that more and more Republicans seem to be realizing.
