Subject: Why it's suspect: Larry, Republican and Bush supporters ask incredulously why people can't give the President and his proposals to restructure Social Security a fair shake. Wanna know why? Because George W. Bush has never been honest with us. The war in Iraq was sold to the American people in the aftermath of Sept. 11 as a search and destroy mission for weapons of mass destruction which, unless exposed and destroyed, would end up being used on American cities. When that reason lost it s credibility, it was switched on a dime to being fought to bring liberty and democracy to an oppressed and subjugated people. Bush's real reasons for the war were hard to market: to complete the job his father left unfinished and to gain influence, if not outright control, over the world's second largest oil reserves. Now he wants to change Social Security and "simplify" the tax code for reasons also basic but hard to sell. Social Security is an economic safety net and therefore socialism. Real conservatives of the William F. Buckley school believe that men are not inordinately equal: some are superior, some inferior, and the superior should have no legal obligation to provide for the inferior. They feel the wealthy should not have to pay taxes at a higher rate than anyone else. Forget that some Americans live hand to mouth and others have more money than they could ever spend. The result would bring a disparity of wealth not seen in this country since the Gilded Age. The Bushes are American nobility, and from the time the President gets up until he goes to bed he is devoted to one thing above all others: to help the rich get richer. Daniel
RESPONSE: WOW! You nail this one. But the sales job that Republicans do is masterful...an "ownership society." What great marketing of selfish greed! One would hope that at some point the 50% who continue to support the President will come to see the repeated lies behind the masterful marketing. How many times do you get lied to before you get it...fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice...
