Subject: Just a Regular Guy: Larry, I don’t understand the mentality of people who want a “regular guy,” someone you can “have a beer with” and so forth to continue to be our president. I hear these phrases constantly from the television pundits. Why on earth do we want someone who is like the guy next door to lead our nation during these troubled times? We need a serious person who is intelligent and articulate, who understands the gravity of our position in the world, and who is able to interact with other world leaders in a capable and diplomatic manner. Why would we re-elect a man who has misled us every step of the way on the war in Iraq and continues to live in a state of denial concerning Iraq and the Middle East? The news from Iraq gets worse every day but George W. Bush is determined to “stay the course.” It is not a sign of strength to continue on a course that has brought us to such a low point in our history. It is a lack of wisdom and the inability to admit when one is wrong. DM
