The Atlantic County Clerk's Office
says that residents who applied for a mail-in ballot in this year's
general election may have received an envelope with the wrong zip code
for the return address.
However, no ballots have been misplaced and all will be counted provided that the resident filled it out correctly.
Mike
Sommers, the deputy county clerk, said on Monday that some of the
mail-in ballots have the zip code for Mays Landing as 08830 instead of
the correct 08330 on the return address.
Sommers
said that despite the error, the ballots are still being delivered to
the right place because the bar code that gets scanned at the post
office has the correct address attached to it.
"The bar code trumps the physical address, so there has been no issue getting the ballots back," Sommers said.
Lynn
Caterson, a member of the Atlantic County Board of Elections, said she
has received no complaints from residents about the wrong zip code. She
said that about 12,000 people applied for mail-in ballots this year.
