Unofficial GEHR Referendum Results

Referendum Question One: Approved
Referendum Question Two: Defeated

According to Shore News Today, Greater Egg Harbor Regional School district voters delivered a mixed bag of results Tuesday, Dec. 13 during a special referendum election on improvements at Absegami and Oakcrest high schools.

Voters approved the first question on the ballot, 1,346 votes to 1,223, based on the strength of a nearly 2-1 approval ratio in Hamilton Township, according to figures released by GEHR.

Absentee and provisional ballets were to be counted Dec. 14.

The first question called for a complete roof replacement at Oakcrest and a partial replacement at Absegami. Also, both schools would receive new fire alarm systems. In addition, the heating and air conditioning units at Absegami will be replaced.

Hamilton Township residents voted for the improvements 426-243, while the measure failed in Galloway (823-801), Egg Harbor City (65-38), and Mullica (92-81).

Residents voted down the second question, which called for the replacement of heating and ventilation units at Oakcrest and the addition of air conditioning for classrooms at the 51-year-old school.

Overall, voters defeated the measure 1,292-1,248, despite Hamilton voters giving their OK to the question by a 408-206 margin.

Elsewhere in the district, Galloway voters nixed the measure 871-728, as did Mullica residents (95-77), and Egg Harbor City residents (66-35).
