Hammontonians feel protective of their hospital: William B. Kessler Memorial Hospital, but even they know they're not the only ones who depend on it.
A little compass-twirling on a map of southern New Jersey's hospitals finds more than 200 square miles in which Kessler is the closest acute-care hospital. That's an area about five times the size of Hammonton rooting for the hospital to succeed in its emergency loan drive.
Kessler's new administration said without $5 million from residents by Jan. 15, permanent shutdown is the only option left.

IF that hospital were in Mullica Township my good friend BILL KENNEDY would kick their ass for being so dumb and lazy.
GO GET'EM BILL KENNEDY!!!! Mullica...YOU RULE!
It is very sad about Kessler.
I will add the only thing I can agree on here is the usage of BILL KENNEDY, DUMB AND LAZY being used in the same sentence.
If the hospital were in Mullica and we relied on Bill for the hospital, it would have folded a long time ago, unless his buddy Barbera owned it.
Sure, Bill would kick ass, he's a bully, how else would he handle it?
Yo! Mullica Rules copycat! BILL KENNEDY would kick your butt to. Hiding behind your fake name is the only thing saving you from the wrath of BILL "The Mullica Saver"
Mullica
BILL is the best thing that ever happened to you and your little world. And by the way, you had better leave that little thing alone.

You people have to be the most retarded people in the county.
Yup, Bill Kennedy is a good man...for the Republicans-you played him well. Keep pumping up his head up and maybe his head will finally explode and then we won't have to worry about him anymore.
I see in the article that Bill the mayor got his rich friends, the Merlinos, to kick in some cash to save the hospital - NOT!
It is a good idea for the farmers to donate some of the money they received from taxpayers money ie . free fencing, free this and that because you are a farmer. These perks add up to a lot of money for each farmer. Give some back to your community....
I guess those Hospital Officials didn't know that Kennedy's first "priority" was the Vet's Memorial. The Rescue Squad and the Hospital wouldn't interest him unless they were giving out a free dinner. I wonder if he collected even 5 bucks towards a bench.
Although the hospital may not win a prize for high quality patient care, they at least recognize their limitations, and transfer people out to appropriate facilities.
Transfer dilemmas involving pride and politics are a big issue with Virtua And ACMC hospitals.
When one has a cardiac arrest, a major airway problem, or multiple trauma, morbidity and mortality will increase if reaching a hospital for advanced life support measures is delayed due to distance.
The migrant workers have habitually abused the hospital's emergency services for unreimbursed care. The hospital also only billed for half of my 130occupational therapy visits. I even gave them a typed list of my treatment dates.

Don't blame the migrant workers for the downfall of the hospital. You would have to blame their employers who want them to come here and pick blueberries but certainly don't want to provide them with any type of health coverage. Where else are they supposed to go if they are sick? If my family and children were sick and I had no money you're damned right I would go where I had to to get them help.
The problem with that hospital has been the lack of any type of leadership. CEO's that get their big money but don't care how the hospital is run day to day.
First the Rescue squad
Then the Hospital!
Whats next in our little town of
Mayberry, I mean Mullica?
Don't worry, Janet will be our new mayor and save us all and make everything all better.
OMG this is about the hospital not Mullica.......

"OMG this is about the hospital not Mullica......."
How about reading the article before you comment?
There are several Mullica connections, including that of Mullica's ineffectual head of public safety, who was unsuccessful in trying to assist the hospital by asking Mullica's wealthy farmers to help out.
Many people aren't aware that the migrant workers receive free medical care, free eyeglasses, free prescriptions, and even free treatment for preexisting venereal diseases at Southern Jersey Family Medical Centers in Hammonton. The migrant workers are given their chronic medications the day of their arrival. The center also provides exclusive, free, personalized door-to-door medical transportation for the migrant workers and their families. The center's migrant outreach is a huge undertaking. The center's 4 company cars are usually reserved for the migrant work outreach, and not available to other employees. This is in addition to the van that exclusively transports the migrants and their families to and from the medical center.
Medical and maternity services are also completely free for the migrants' non-working offspring and non-working impregnanted spouses that they drag along from south of the border. Our school districts have specialized programs, even in the summer, exclusively for the children of temporary migrant workers. Maybe we should provide only for the farm worker, and they can leave their families at home, south of the border.
Yes, the migrant workers do pay income taxes. However, they receive more medical services than our own year-round citizens. The few area people that are aware of this program are outraged, since many families who are long-term, year round citizens have to ration or skip their medicines or medical care.
I am not sure who else may be contributing to this grant besides the taxpayers. I don't know if the farmers contribute or not.
If one is sick, one should go to a doctor's office, like most of us do. The migrants have a free medical center to go to with free door-to door transportation. Ask any Kessler Hospital employee .....the migrants go to the emergency department to enjoy the air conditioning.
Thank you for reading my hopefully informative rant. Life is not fair. And the USA takes care of everyone but their own. Yes, the migrants'abuse of emergency services is only a portion of the multi-faceted hospital failure. However, the migrants are not left "on their own" for healthcare. They also shoe no appreciation when they take all of the food from the food pantry at our church, then start demanding certain things. No appreciation.
The hospital is just mismanaged period. The board members are not physicians or have any experience in the medical field, just a bunch of blow hard Hammontonians who know nothing of the health industry, but just like saying they sit on the board.
Hammonton is it's own worst enemy sometimes.
My good friend BILL KENNEDY will kick your butt one of these days.
Did you say your good friend Bill Kennedy was going to LICK my butt? Oh, right, he only does that for Forman and Chasey.
He is barely functional enough to WIPE his own butt, let alone kick someone's butt.
