Split Votes from the 11/18/08 Township Committee Meeting

As found on the Keep Mullica Green website.

In an effort to keep the public informed, Keep Mullica Green from time to time will provide details of "split votes" from committee meetings. Two such votes occurred at the November 18, 2008 meeting.

APPROVE REQUEST FOR QUALIFICATIONS

We feel that it serves the best interest of the community to advertise for key vendor openings so that the Committee can consider a wider pool of qualified applicants. This is a common practice in the private sector that many times leads to lower costs due to competition.

Yeas: Graebener, St. Amour
Nays: Chasey, Forman, Kennedy

This would indicate that those opposed to the bidding process (Chasey, Forman and Kennedy) are not interested in opening a competitive environment and perhaps have already pre-selected who they would choose to appoint for these key vendor contracts.

ORDINANCE 15-2008: ECONOMIC ADVISORY COMMISSION

This motion would seek to change the language for appointments to the Economic Advisory Commission to allow non-residents to serve on the Commission.

Yeas: Chasey, Forman, Kennedy
Nays: Graebener, St. Amour

We opposed this change for two reasons:

It does not serve the best interests of the residents to have non-residents sitting on local advisory boards because they have neither the life's experience learned from living within our community nor the vested interests that the residents have. There are plenty of talented, business-minded residents who could contribute if asked.

Also, it is not good public policy to make or change ordinances when such changes ar to benefit one specific individual. This perpetuates the misguided precedent of politically-motivated, personal lawmaking. A perfect example of this would be to change the zoning of all of Elwood Village Center for the financial benefit of a single land owner, Steve Waszen, to the detriment of the greater community.

Disagreement and debate are a normal, healthy part of the government process. When actions are so obviously out of step with the good of the community, however, we will continue to report them here.

This is the reason I pushed that damm button for Kennedy. I really believed he would put a stop to this kind of thing. Voting"no" to open bidding went against his statement, before the election, that he was for it. And bringing in someone that does not live in town to advise us makes me wonder what is up their sleeves now.
These three do not have the interests of the town on their minds. I expected it of the women because of the past things that they pulled but I feel that Kennedy is the biggest traitor to the town.

Bill has become a big disappointment for most of the people who voted for him.

I think this is a great idea! It will be very interesting to see what is voted on and the reasons behind the disagreements.

Can someone tell me what is wrong with open bidding on jobs? This seems like the best way to get the best people at best price.
Why would we want someone from out of town telling us what to do?
What happened? Isn't there anybody left in town that wants to play the back-room games. Maybe that's a sign of hope for this town.
I guess we will wait and see what the "outsider" will advise. Why do I think it will be just what Chasey and Forman want to hear?

If you think the voters are disappointed in Bill, just think how his Mama must feel?

"Isn't there anybody left in town that wants to play the back-room games?"
So true that they now have to look outside the community for their support.

Bill Kennedy has no dignity. Chasey and Forman used to laugh in his face at committee meetings...now he's to busy licking their boots to see how they are using him. His family must be proud...
