Subject: A summer break: Larry, I have regretfully been a tepid supporter of the war because I believe the carnage on our departure would make current events look like a day at the beach. I had thought that if done right, there could have been a good outcome. But if the Iraqi parliament takes a two-month summer break, then I would support a withdrawal as soon as possible. Iraq's lawmakers are even worse than ours. Actually a two-month vacation may be a Great idea; in fact, our troops in Iraq should do the same. Two months when Iraqi lawmakers can enjoy some leisure time, and two months when young American soldiers will not die. Sounds fair. This reminds me of Marlon Brando as Col. Kurtz in "Apocalypse Now" chanting, "Insanity, insanity." The Bush administration's strategy seems to be that if what we have done up to now doesn't work, let's do more of it and get more people killed. Have we become so blasé about this disaster that it is less important than the "Spider-Man 3" box office, Rudy Giuliani's divorces and Hermes shopping bags, all on the front pages and nightly news?
