Subject: Postponing Responsible Actions: Larry by waiting until the end of 2008 for responses regarding the threat caused by carbon dioxide emissions, President Bush is only trying to postpone doing anything to benefit the environment and, as some suspect, prevent states from passing their own regulatory laws. If Bush really wanted to protect the environment, he could be proposing new legislation for limiting emissions and reducing greenhouse gases. Instead, the administration refuses to ratify the Kyoto Protocol and denies that regulating tailpipe emissions is necessary, claiming it would be bad for the economy. With the U.S. being the largest single emitter of carbon dioxide in 2005, it is necessary that emissions be regulated in our country now. If individual states are willing to limit their greenhouse gas emissions, then the nation should be willing to support them and follow in their footsteps. Stacy

RESPONSE: The disdain at every turn of this Republican administration for anything that protects the environment is well established. Clean air, water pollution, endangered species…it has all been policy wise to let industry reap more profits and pollute the environment. There was a time, tracing from Teddy Roosevelt thru Nixon, when Republicans had a proud record of environmental concern. No longer, today’s Republicans hold positions that the environment is for sale for campaign contributions.

This latest proposal comes only after the Supreme Court ruled that the refusal of the Bush administration to regulate auto emissions was an illegal act. The lawsuit being brought by many of the States who have a concern about the health of their residents. The only concern today’s Republicans have … at least those who control the Party … is for greater profits…and too hell with the health of the children.
