Subject: Just Not Listening: Larry, eleven Republican congressmen have spoken against the war. It strikes me as odd that the number of Republican congressmen listening to their constituents back home is not a much larger number. With public opinion polls all showing the majority of people want the war to end, more than 11 lawmakers should be telling the president what they're being told back home. Party politics should take a back seat to common sense. It also goes against common sense to believe we are demoralizing our servicemen, many of whom were pulled from their normal lives to fight this war. If it were announced tomorrow that they were coming home, we would be able to hear them cheer from here. There are many important domestic issues that are being shoved to the back burner while we wait for a solution in Iraq. It's way past time for all congressmen to start listening to the people who elected them. RL

RESPONSE: While overall the vast majority of Americans who define themselves as 'Independent' or 'Democrats' want the war to end and the troops to come home now...the sad reality is that around 70% of those who define themselves as Republicans have bought the lies of the chicken hawks who are in control...and most Republicans will run in the Primary and need to appeal to the dumb Republican core who continue to support the war.
