MULLICA ACTS TO CHANGE JUNK YARD OPERATING HOURS

At the May 8th Mullica Town Meeting, an Ordinance was adopted after a public hearing to change the hours of operations of Mullica Junk Yards on Saturday. The initial change had been to require Junk Yards to close on Saturday at 1 P.M. …at the first reading of the Ordinance at the previous Mullica Town meeting that time change had been pushed back to 3 P.M. as the closing time on Saturday.

Three Junk Yard operators/owners were present at the meeting as well as residential neighbors of the old Jordan Junk Yard on the Pike. The three Junk Yard operators all opposed the change in hours. One Junk Yard operator (Quality) telling THE CORRUPT MULLICA 5 AKA IDIOTS R US that his operation was a seven day a week one and he needed to be open to support his family and pay his bills.

The extant Ordinance called for no operation of Junk Yards on Sunday in Mullica. The operator of Quality, Willie Wygan indicated that he had always operated on Sunday and was not going to change. Mullica offica DUMB indicated that Code Enforcement Officer, Tom Sandman would selectively decide which Junk Yards were in violation and in effect told Wygan not to worry about his operation.

Citizens and neighbors, complained at the Hearing repeatedly about the noise, smells and past operation and harassment of the various operators at the old Jordan Junk Yard. The new owner of Mike’s Junk Yard down on 5th Avenue felt that a closing on Saturday at 3 P.M. was unreasonable and felt that a more accommodating closing time on Saturday would be 5 P.M. After much public give and take, the change in hours of permitted operations for Junk Yards in Mullica was adopted unanimously.
